Florence
Often called the “cradle of the Renaissance”, it is one of those cities which much be seen at least once in a lifetime. To walk in the streets of its historic centre means walking back in time, from the Middle Ages right up to nowadays, surrounded by some of the greatest masterpieces of architecture in the world.
The Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, Brunelleschi’s cupola or dome, Giotto’s Bell Tower, Piazza della Signoria, the Uffizi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio, ‘i Lungarni’ or Arno Embankments, are only a few of the places which render this city absolutely unique.
Pisa
Famous all over the world for its Piazza dei Miracoli – with its Leaning Tower, the Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral, the Baptistry and the Camposanto – it is a city rich in picturesque sights with medieval lanes, palazzi, squares and the lovely Arno Embankments, all to be discovered and admired. The Piazza dei Cavalieri with the ‘Torre della Fame’, or Count Ugolino’s Tower, is another must. It is also a lively university centre.
Siena
The city of the famous Palio and its ‘contrada’ or city quarters, is truly stunning with its intact medieval appearance, which has remained exactly the same over the centuries. Piazza del Campo
with its Palazzo Pubblico and the Torre del Mangia is one of the most spectacular, picture-postcard sights of the whole of Tuscany. The Cathedral holds century-old masterpieces, beginning with its lovely facade made of white and green marble.
